Sangiovese: Sangiovese is a red wine grape variety
originating in Italy. It is most famous as the main component of the
Chianti blend in Tuscany, but winemakers outside Italy are starting to
experiment with it. Young sangiovese has fresh fruity flavors of
strawberry and a little spiciness, but it readily takes on oaky, even
tarry, flavors when aged in barrels. Abacela *Grows these grapes in Oregon as does Fiasco Winery in the Applegate Valley AVA along with a few more. Also they are grown in the Columbia Gorge and in The Walla Walla Valley AVA in the North Eastern corner of Oregon.
Thanks to Oregon Wine Merchants
*I stand corrected: Abacela no longer grows Sangiovese.
